Montecillo Crianza 2016

Producer: Montecillo
Montecillo is the third oldest winery in Rioja and therefore has a wealth of experience in winemaking and bottle and barrel ageing. As a result this wine is vibrant, with a thoroughly fresh nose full of ripe red fruits with hints of warm patisserie and a subtle touch of anise and the oak is sublimely judged. It is lively on the palate too with masses of juicy dark fruit character, polished tannins and a cracking finish with nods to coconut, creamy toffee and vanilla pod to complement the generous fruit. Best enjoyed with chargrilled or barbecued meat. Alternatively, pair with cheese. 13.5% and Vegan

Luigi Tacchino Gavi di Gavi Azienda Vitivinicola 2019

Piedmont is perfect wine country as the hills provide a natural amphitheatre which protects the vineyards from the northerly winds. Today brother and sister duo Alessio and Romina run the Tacchino estate and take great care to restrict yields, meaning this Gavi di Gavi DOCG is full of citrus fruit and tropical notes with crisp acidity and a lingering finish. Typically, Gavi di Gavi should be clean and crisp with a mineral finish. This 2019 version from Azienda Tacchino goes a step further with its apple and peach aromas and notes of fresh almond and seashell on the palate. A beautiful summer time wine enjoyed as an aperitif or with herby pasta sauces like pesto or white fish. 12.5% and Vegan.

Rickety Bridge Shiraz 2017

The estate nestles against the slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains, close to the Franschhoek River that the old rickety bridge used to cross and is led by the young winemaker, Mari Kotze. This likeable Shiraz gives rich dark forest fruit with aromatic notes of spice, white pepper and dark chocolate. The palate is complex and shows elegance and a refined structure with balanced acidity, subtle oak and hints of clove and mulberry on the lingering finish. This great Shiraz is excellent with game, roast beef and spicy lamb dishes. 13.5% and Sustainable methods.

Pegasus Bay Bel Canto Reilsing 2019

A true family business, with all four sons and two spouses involved and managing various aspects. Upon release it is lemon-straw in colour and the bouquet is an enticing medley of citrus and stone fruit, interspersed with floral notes of elderflower and honeysuckle. Layered beneath there are also hints of ginger, honey and spice. The long hanging time and influence of botrytis has resulted in a wine that is rich and full bodied, with great structure and length. It is concentrated yet delicate, with invigorating acidity and a satisfyingly dry finish. Best enjoyed with spicy dishes or seafood? 13.5% and Sustainable.
